  • Mike gets place and show in the Louisville H. G3

    At Churchill, in the mile and one half Louisville H G3, Mike had the place and show horses. Johns Kitten by Kitten' s Joy rallied from far back to gain the place and add the first black type to his pedigree He is owned by the Ramseys  Johns Kitten pushed his earnings to over $97,000. Hitting the board in the show position was the veteran Roman Approval owned by Three Diamonds. Multiple graded stakes placed Roman Approval has earned over $435,000.

  • Hey Mike stakes placed in the Kentucky Juvenile S at Churchill

    The appropriately named 2 year old colt, HEY MIKE, has now added black type to his pedigree, running 2nd in the Kentucky Juvenile S  at Churchill Downs. In in priorr start, he snuck up the rail and hit the wire ahead of the Wesley Ward favorite to win first out at Keeneland. He is by Cape Blanco {Ire}. and is a homebred for Michael Hui.

    Mike Maker won his fourth Keeneland leading trainer title with 13 victories, including a win in the GII Dixiana Elkhorn S. with Da Big Hoss (Lemon Drop Kid). 

  • Another great day racing for Mike

    SMOKEM KITTEN won the G3 Miami Mile at Gulfstream for the Ramseys to add another stake winner notch in the belt of his sire Kitten's Joy. Also at Gulfstream, English Channel filly Susie Bee ran third in the  Powder Break S adding black type to her pedigree and upping her earnings to $113,333. She is owned by Bluegrass Hall LLC. To cap it off, Southern Gem won an $80.000 allowance race at Belmont for his owner Three Diamonds Farm and R. Verratti  and Zoo Yorker won at CHurchill for owner Mark Breen.

  • Al's Gal adds graded black type in the Bewitch G3

    Already stakes placed, Al's Gal by English Channel added a graded stakes placing in the Bewitch S. G3 at Keeneland. She is owned by the Ramseys and was bred by Malone Racing LLC. The 5 year old mare has earned $247,395.

    A clever $50,000 claim last year by trainer Mike Maker and Skychai Racing, 5-year-old Da Big Hoss continued to reward his new connections April 23, when he won his first grade II event. The Lemon Drop Kid runner shot through on the rail under jockey Florent Geroux and held off rallying Kaigun by half a length to claim the $250,000 Elkhorn Stakes (gr. IIT) at Keeneland. He added the 1 1/2-mile turf race to a resume that includes wins in the John B. Connally Turf (gr. IIIT) and Kentucky Turf Cup (gr. IIIT). "He's a very neat horse," Geroux said. "When there's an opening he can shoot through very quickly, and that made the difference today. When I was able to see the opening at the top of the stretch, my horse kicked through and kept on going." Bred in Kentucky by Gary and Mary West out of the Touch Gold mare Lady Struck Gold, Da Big Hoss made 10 starts for the Wests and trainer Wayne Catalano before moving to Maker. Seven of his eight subsequent races have been in stakes.

    On the same day, Mike had 2 more winners and a nice stakes placing by PARTLY MOCHA in the Confucius Cay S  at Charles Town.

    Three year old Discreetly Mine colt, I`m No Secret added black type. sprinting to the show position  in the Fisher Island H at Gulfstream. He is a homebred for Get Away Farm.

    The most exciting was recently claimed OSCAR NOMINATED who punched his ticket to the KY DERBY. Also winning were  AFLEET LADY and SCISSORS AND TAPE both breaking their maidens in MSW company.

  • ANOTHER Mike Maker claimed horse wins a G2: Maker Exacta

    S'MAVERLOUS was claimed for $32,000 this fall at Belmont. The 6 year old Tiz Wonderful gelding had 2 allowance wins after he changed barns and stepping up into Grade 2 stakes company, he nailed the $400,000 New Orleans Handicap at the Fair Grounds. He is now owned by Gata Racing Stable LLC and has earned over $500,000. This is one of Mike's specialties - claiming a horse and moving it up into Graded stakes company - sometimes all the way to the Breeders' Cup!

    It was a MIKE MAKE EXACTA as GSW INTERNATIONAL STAR, winner of last year's Louisiana Derby G2, was placed second due to interference. He upped his earnings over $1,150,000. He is owned by the Ramseys.

  • Good stakes day for Mike

    Just in time for the actual OSCARS, OSCAR NOMINATED won the Black Gold Overnight S  going  7-1/2 furlongs on the turf. He was bred by the Ramseys and is now owned by Mrs Jerry Amerman. He  has 2 wins and 2 seconds from 6 starts and is approaching $90,000 in earnings.

    At Sam Houston, TWO STEP TIME won his first stakes, the Texas Heritage S, for his owner Get Away Farm. He has earned over $93,000 and has not been off the board.

  • Stakes placing and a winner at the Fair Grounds

    Multiple graded stakes placed year old horse, Roman Approval added black type running second in the G3. Fair Grounds H. He is owned by Three Diamonds Farm and was bred by Glencrest Farm LLC & Fox-Straus. He has earned over $423,000. On the same card, 7 year old Hammers Terror won an AOC and pushed his earnings close to $450,000.  Hammers Terror was a claim last March for owner Michael M Hui. Mike does a great job of keeping these wonderful old horses with back class happy.

  • Magna Breeze 2nd in the Houston Turf S

     MSW MAGNA BREEZE,  who had  run for a $15,000 tag, added more black type running second in the Houston Turf S at Sam Houston. He is owned by William J Buck Butler and has earned over $183,000.

  • DA BIG HOSS romps in the John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes - Gr. 3

    Newly claimed for $50,000, DA BIG HOSS, won the  G3 Kentucky Downs Turf Cup for new owner Skychai Racing LLC, and then took the show spot in the G3- W L Mcknight H at Gulfstream Park. In his most recent start, the John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes - Gr. 3 at Sam Houston,  he settled on the rail and then found a seam and went through for an easy win by over 4 lenghts, He has earned over $700,000.

  • Two Step Time second in the OBS Obs Championship S

    Two Step Time slipped up the inside and got the place in the OBS Championship S. going 1 1/16 on the All Weather track at the Ocala Training Center. The three year old is owned by  Get Away Farm and was bred by Chessmate Thoroughbreds International LLC & Peter Halsall.

  • Magna Breeze 3rd in the Richard King S at Sam Houston

    Multiple SW Texas bred MAGNA BREEZE went wide to hold for third in the Richard King S. at Sam Houston. He is owned by William J. Butler.

    Mike had two other winners, 4 year old Curlin filly, Split it , won at Turfway for owner /breeder James M Herbener Jr and Tapit horse Tax Deduction also won at Turfway and was claimed.

    Ken and Sarah Ramsey's Uncle Walter looks to become the outfit's third consecutive winner of the $200,000 Twinspires.com Lecomte Stakes (gr. III) Jan. 16 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. 

    Trained by Mike Maker, who also conditioned the last two winners for the Ramseys—International Star and Vicar's in Trouble—Uncle Walter will be ridden by the former's rider, Miguel Mena.

    "We think we have a Derby trail horse with Uncle Walter," Ramsey said. "We've won five of the last six preps (for the grade I Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands) there at the Fair Grounds and we hope to maintain that good luck.

    DA BIG HOSS quickly paid back his $50,000 claim, taking the G3 Kentucky Downs Turf Cup for new owner Skychai Racing LLC. Most recently he took the show spot in the G3- W L Mcknight H at Gulfstream Park. He is closing on $600,000 in earnings.

    At the Fair Grounds, three year old Smart Strike filly Southern Gem also took the show spot in the Pago Hop,adding her first black type. She is owned by Three Diamonds Farm.

  • SWAGGER JAGGER takes the Pulpit S. at GPW

    SWAGGER JAGGER returned to the turf to break his maiden  on Halloween, and definitively proved what surface he prefers here while adding his first black-type victory. Off the rail while just behind the leaders down the backside, he seemed hard-ridden along the home bend. Spinning wide into the lane, he gobbled up ground down the center of the course to earn the narrow decision. He is owned by Warner Thoroughbreds, Lewis, III, Lewis, Setzer, Seltzer et al. and was bred by Woodford Thoroughbreds (FL).  Lifetime Record: 6-2-0-1, $83,630.

  • 2 Churchill winners today

    Partly Mocha was claimed by Mike two races back for $25,000. The six year old races now for the Ramseys. He was an excellent claim having had a second and now a win in allowance company since his claim. He is a specialist at sprinting on the turf and has earned $293,322 with a lifetime record of 28-6-6-4.

    On the same day, Beside Still Water, also a $25,000 claim for the Ramseys won stretched out to 1 1/16 on the turf. The three year old won for $40,000. She is by Lemon Drop Kid and will suit Kitten's Joy when her racing is done. She is approaching $50,000 in earnings.

  • 3 good winners today

    Two year old U S Ranger colt, Oscar Mike, graduated  at Belmont in a MSW.. It was his 4th start, but he has been knocking at the door and has already earned over $62,000 for owner Three Diamonds Farm.  Also at Belmont 3 year old Medaglia d'Oro filly won an allowance race for the Ramseys and upped her winning to $114,734. Down the road at Laurel, multiple graded stakes placed Roman Approval, recently third in the Kentucky Turf Cup Stakes - Gr. 3, was also a winner. His earnings for owner Three Diamonds Farm is approaching $350,000.

  • Two Stakes Wins for Mike at GPW

    Although DA BIG HOSS checked in 6th in the BC Turf t Keeneland, three year old filly SUSIE BEE won the Cellars Shiraz S  at Gulfstream Park West for owner Calumet Farm and three year old colt WATCHYOUROWNBOBBER won the Showing Up S also at Gulfstream Park West for the Ramseys.

  • Again ran second in the Lafayette S at Keeneland

    SW DOUBLEDWN AGAIN pressed the pace early, grabbed the lead but could not quite hold off the favorite.in the Lafayette S. at Keeneand. DOUBLEDOWN AGAIN is owned by Michael Hui and has earned over $353,000.

  • From $50,000 Claimer to Breeders' Cup

     quickly paid back his $50,000 claim, taking the G3 Kentucky Downs Turf Cup for new owner Skychai Racing LLC. Now he is in the field of the $3 million dollar Breeders' Cup Turf (G1)! 

  • Kitten's Dumplings decisive in Little Miss Magic S win

    KITTEN'S DUMPLINGS won three graded stakes races as a sophomore in 2013, including a score in the GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup. Returning in 2015, she rab second in the Indiana General Assembly Distaff S. In the Little Miss MAgic, the Ramsey Farm homebred was confidently handled in midpack as the leaders completed a halfmile in :50.22. Advancing four wide into the stretch, the kicked clear to a decisive victory. She has earned $760,815.

    Flashlight (Ire), a 5 year old Irish Bred horse by Shamardal was claimed by Mike last out for $40,000. He ran back in the Teleprompter S at Arlington Park and gained a stakes placing for his new owner Michael M. Hui.

    Three year old Kitten's Joy filly Legendofthekitten broke her maiden at Churchill in her first start. Also for the Ramseys, Derby Day Kitten won at Kentucky Downs and the  Danehill Dancer(IRE) mare  Asperites also won at Kentucky Downs, pushing her earnings over $100,000.

    At Kentucky Downs again, Macho Gabacho, by Macho Uno,  broke his maiden  for owner Stonewall Dominion LLC.

  • Two stakes placings at Indiana Grand

    Graded stakes placed, Granny`s Kitten, ran second in the Centaur S at a mile on the turf for the Ramseys. She has earned $193,999. WILD SWAVA, winner of the Florence Henderson S last year, ran second this year. The 5 year old mare has earned better than $330,000. She is owned by  William J. Butler and was bred by John O'Meara.

  • Al's Gal adds black type

    Al's Gal, by English Channel stepped up into stakes company in the divided Mrs. Penny S at PARX and ran a strong second losing the win by a nose. She is owned by the Ramseys and was bred by Malone Racing, LLC. 

  • Stakes Win at Saratoga for Skychai Racing

    Mike claimed four year old colt DA BIG HOSS  back in June for $50,000. He has since won an allowance race at Saratoga and then stepped up into stakes company going a route in the John's Call and  got the job done. This is a Mike Maker specialty!  DA BIG HOSS waited and then cleared when it counted winning by two lengths for his owner Skychai Racing and breeder Gary & Mary West Stables Inc. He has earned over $220,000.

  • Graded stakes placed Firespike 2nd in the Victoria Park S

    Firespike ran second in the Victoria Park S at Woodbine going 1 1/8 on the all weather surface. He is owned by Skychai Racing LLC, Warner, Charles Kevin, and Sand Dollar Stable LLC  and was bred by Carlos Rafael, Michael Bossio & Cherie Abner. He has bankrolled over  $250,000.

  • Mike leading trainer at Churchill

    Maker, with 65 starters through 37 days of the 38-date meet, was winning at a 34-percent clip. That includes 40 percent (14 for 35) on turf. Fourteen of his wins were with Ramsey horses.

    "We just had a wide range of horses, a lot of turf horses obviously who fit (race) conditions well, and it worked out for us," Maker said of his fifth title and first since the 2013 fall meet. "Turf-wise, I knew we were pretty strong."

    Three year old filly Susie Bee by English Channel was over strong early, but held on for the show in the Miss Patti S at Gulfstream thus adding to her future value for owner Calumet Farm. She was bred by Bluegrass Hall, LLC.

    He did not make it to the winner's circle but Mike had the next two in the 96Rock S. at Turfway. Three year old colt Two Step Temper, owned by Get Away Farm and bred Garth Bodkin & Kerry Reynells was second and Serious Talk was third. Serious Talk is owned by Michael M Hui and was bred by Springland Farm Inc Aaron Jones. It was first black type for both.
